Five-line Snapper, (Lutjanus quinquelineatus)

Identification

The Five-line Snapper can be recognised by its colouration. It is yellow with five blue lines on the body. There is often a diffuse dark blotch on the back below the dorsal fin rays and above the lateral line.

Size range

The species grows to 35 cm in length.

Distribution

It is found in tropical waters and some temperate waters of the Indo-West Pacific.

In Australia the Five-line Snapper occurs from the central coast of Western Australia, around the tropical north and south to the central coast of New South Wales.
