Regal Angelfish, (Pygoplites diacanthus)
Description
The Regal Angelfish is a beautiful tropical angelfish with yellow, black, white and blue vertical stripes and yellow tail. The dorsal fin is blue with black markings and the anal fin has yellow and blue stripes. Juveniles are orange yellow with fewer black and white bars. It is found in depths from 1m to 48m.
Size
to 25cm
Habitat
coral reefs and lagoons with good coral growth. Often found near caves and ledges
Food
sponges, sea squirtsÂ
Range
Indian Ocean and Pacific from East Africa and the Red Sea, north to Japan, south to Australia. In Australia it is found round the tropical north of the country from Western Australia to Queensland.
Notes
The Regal Angelfish is one of the most beautiful fish, but unfortunately it is not easy to maintain in captivity as an aquarium fish.
